Meet Paul *Sparky* Hannas: Chef, Firefighter Captain, Volunteer

Paul Sparky on the left and Executive Chef Scot on the right.

We are very lucky to have the volunteers that we do. Each of them empowers us to serve those in need in Ottawa. Meet Paul Hannas, or as our Executive Chef, Scot Cunningham calls him, Sparky!

Sparky and Scot knew each other long before volunteering at Food for Thought. In fact, they worked together as chefs at L'Eau Vive restaurant in Gatineau over 20 years ago! A retired Captain of Ladder 56 in the Ottawa Fire Department, Sparky was one of the first firefighters on the scene when Coconut Lagoon went up in flames last year. Coconut Lagoon is the flagship restaurant of Chef Joe Thottungal, our Director of Culinary affairs and a pillar of community support in Ottawa. Since then, Sparky has been volunteering his time to help Food for Thought. We are truly grateful to have leaders that are also team players, like Sparky, helping us serve those in need with nutritious, scratch-made meals.
